Following

When we follow the footsteps of Jesus, they take us to some very interesting places:

  • to a river where we witness his baptism, to hear the voice of God, and to see the Holy Spirit descend
  • to a lakeshore and the marketplace where he calls ordinary people to come and follow him
  • to a hillside where we can sit and learn about the Way, having our preconceptions turned upside down
  • to a wedding reception where he saves people from social shame and embarrassment
  • to a bedside where the sick are prayed for and healed
  • to the streets where the undesirables and outcasts find forgiveness and a new way of living
  • to a banquet table where the powerful take a backseat to the unfit sinners who wander in off the street
  • to the desert to be tested and tempted by the devil's schemes
  • to the mountaintop to pray and seek God's will
  • to the temple where the people are taught and injustice is confronted
  • to the caves where the deepest and darkest demons are confronted and the oppressed are set free
  • to a well in the midday sun where a thirsty soul is satisfied
  • to public and private places where the brilliant and powerful who think they have it all figured out are challenged
  • to the courts where the condemned are declared free and the guiltless are condemned to death
  • to the cross
  • to the grave
  • out of the grave
  • among us
  • within us
  • leading us
  • inviting us to follow
